Spread betting on sports

Spread betting on sports

Spread betting is becoming increasingly popular as people tire of the same old type of bets that are on offer from traditional bookmakers.  please click the following article Spread betting is a popular concept in finance, and it has been adapted for sports by IG Sport and Sporting Exchange.

If you are new to the concept of  spread betting, this guide will aim to provide you with some basic information as to how it's done, the risks that are involved and the companies that facilitate it.

So how does Spread Betting work?

You can think of the type of bets you could place at a sportsbook. The only thing you can wager on is whether a certain team/horse/player wins the game, scores the most points, etc. Spread betting allows you to wager on the accuracy of your bet. Let's take the following example as an example to show how accuracy of your bet can affect how much you might win or lose.

Just imagine you wanted to place a bet on how many corners there will be in a Spanish League match between Barcelona and Real Madrid. The spread betting company will provide you with a spread that is basically the number of corners they feel is the most likely of occurring. If the spread is 7-8, then they believe that there are 7-8 corners in this match. The next step is to decide whether the match will have more or less corners.

When making your decision on which way this match will go you have two decisions: Buy or sell? You should buy if you believe there will be 8 corners in the match. You should sell if you believe there is a greater chance of there being less than 7. If you purchased at PS5 per corner and there were 9 corners, you would win PS10 (9-7x PS5). If you sold then for every corner less than 7 you would win PS5. For example if there were 6 shots your winnings would be PS5.

Is Spread Betting risky?

Spread betting, as with all forms of gambling, can be dangerous if you don't take the right precautions. There are many people who will tell you that there is no way to lose money. While this may be true to some extent, it is important to remember that gambling can have a potentially unlimited downside. You should also ensure that you don't lose more than you can afford.

Which websites offer Spread Betting?

The number of spread betting facilitators is increasing all the time although there are a couple of great ones that have been on the market for a while now. Sporting Index is the most well-known and offers a wide range of markets, as well as a fair spread. The first website to offer sports spread betting is IG Sport who again are very popular for what they do.
